
Hypnotizing somebody is simple and easy. You do not need any special skills and you can learn to hypnotize people in a hour or so. You can learn how to hypnotize yourself, or you can hypnotize someone else for relaxation and healing, you can put people into a hypnotic trance to explore a past life or stop smoking or lose weight. It is easy to become a hypnotist. Hypnotism can be done anywhere, in private or in a bar or at a party. Done with a group of friends people are always amazed and impressed when they see someone get hypnotized - it all seems so mysterious and supernatural. Hypnotizing someone is actually quite simple. Just follow the instructions and you can learn how to hypnotize people and amaze your friends in just a few hours. The following sections go into more detail and show you how to hypnotize somebody.
First you need to understand what hypnosis is about. Hypnotizing someone involves a few simple steps.
Step 1: tell the person to relax their muscles
Step 2: tell the person to notice their breathing
Step 3: direct the person to focus their attention on something
Step 4: suggest the person wants to close their eyes
Step 5: tell them that while they are focusing on that, their body is getting more relaxed, they are feeling tired
Step 6: keep suggesting that they can relax more and let go their mind
Step 7: tell them they cannot open their eyes
Step 8: after you are sure they are hypnotized, deepen the trance
Step 9: give whatever hypnotic suggestions you want to.
Step 10: bring them out of hypnosis.
If you follow these steps you will know how to hypnotize anyone.
Get the person to sit or lie somewhere comfortable, in a place that is quiet and free from interruptions. It does not need to be completely silent, but there should be no sudden loud noises. Talk to the person quietly and slowly... pause where you see the three dots... like this... as you get the person to go into hypnosis you should watch them carefully... particularly their breathing... towards the end of the session you should time your suggestions to their breathing, speak when they breathe out and wait until they breathe in again. You cannot deliver it too slowly. In hypnosis someone looks like they are asleep, but they are actually aware of what is going on as you hypnotize them, so give them plenty of time to act on your suggestions.

When you hypnotize someone with these ten steps the process is called a hypnotic induction. There are hundreds of ways of hypnotizing people. There is a list of Free Hypnosis Scripts here. These will show you how to hypnotize anyone and how to use hypnotic suggestions. Study these, and when a friend says 'Hypnotize me' you will be able to put anyone into a trance.
Most people will go into hypnosis in less than a minute if you go about it the right way. Hypnotic trance is actually very easy. Basically all you have to do is to get the other person to physically relax, then add a few suggestions anchored to breathing, and most people will go into trance almost immediately. This is usually indicated by their eyelids flickering, head jerking slightly, fingers twitching or other involuntary physical signs of trance. The problem is that inside they may feel that they are fully aware of what is going on even though they actually are hypnotized. You must always convince the client that they actually are hypnotized before going on.
The other thing is that once the client has their eyes closed, it is hard for the hypnotist to know if they really are hypnotized, or just sitting there going along with it and hoping something will happen. You have to test - every time, every client. So you have to convince the client, and you have to convince yourself.
The best test is an eye catalepsy test. The eye catalepsy test lets you know the client is responding to the induction, and lets the client know that they actually are hypnotized. If you do not get clear evidence from the eye catalepsy test then deepen and test again. If there is even the slightest doubt, do a finger lift. Those are very difficult to fake. Never assume anything, always test. Use a deepener as many times as you want. The client is entitled to feel convinced that they actually are in trance. There are few things worse than a client saying afterwards "I don't think I was hypnotized at all. I didn't feel any different". If you get no response to the hypnosis depth test ask the client 'What are you experiencing now? Tell me how it seems to you' and let that guide you. If the person opens their eyes on the eye catalepsy test they clearly were not in trance, but this does not mean you have failed or they have failed. All it means is that you need to try a different induction. Ask the client what was going on for them and how they felt and tell them that was really useful information and they are now ready for the second stage of hypnosis. Immediately switch to a different induction based on a different induction method. If the Elman Induction didn't get them, then maybe Confusion will. If not Confusion then try Breathing Induction. If that doesn't work try a relaxation induction. And so on – everyone can be hypnotized once you find the right induction. If people say they can't be, ask them if they have ever dreamed at night. Tell them that is what hypnosis is like and get on with a visual induction.
Remember, the most important part in any induction is the hypnotist's total unshakeable confidence that it is about to happen. This gets communicated to the client non-verbally. As does any hesitancy or doubt. If you don't think the hypnotism will work, then that is what will happen.
Self hypnosis consists of using the same ten step process to learn how to hypnotize yourself. You can't talk to yourself while you are in trance so you need a different method to hypnotize yourself.
